Frugal and Cool

Dante, Acrylic on Canvas 20”x16”
This afternoon I was dancing with my muse; painting, when I suddenly realized that I was overdue for another blog post, so I sat back and began writing.
Here came Stephanie, delivering my mail/checking up on me. I was sprawled in my underwear on my couch, playing with my phone, like a self indulgent deva. At least that’s the impression I had to quash by assuring her I was working. Indeed, the evidence of my industry surrounded me: easels, paintings, supplies, and as I stood my paint water spilled across the carpet.
No worries, easily sopped up, and a pristine carpet isn’t a high priority. I’m a working artist, and my living room is my studio.
I welcome Stephanie (the dear friend whose property I live on) checking up on me. I welcome You checking up on me. I’m accountable to myself first, but I’m not creating in a vacuum, and y’all can help me stay motivated.
It was 90° in here, a typical summer day, but I was comfortable with my little fan. I’ve discovered that the deck is often too hot, cold, windy, buggy and the chair out there uncomfortable , so I just set the easel on the couch and paint cross -legged. So comfy!
Part of my ethic and integrity is to always be careful to waste nothing. This canvas is repurposed and has texture lines in inappropriate places from the previous painting, which I find distracting, so I’m having to take extra time to build up new texture to cover it. I think you’ll see what I’m referring to if you zoom in.
It’s full on summer, which means I’m taking time for adventures with grandkids and friends, and occasionally moving for pet sitting gigs. I think I’m getting better at not letting other life stuff deter me from painting.
Soon this pet portrait and the Iris will be finished, and both will probably be on business cards.
Blessings~
