Entwined
Entwined’ is a subject dear to my heart. On hikes in the forests where I live, in the Pacific Northwest, this represents a common sight. A stand of moss covered maples reaches high amongst the fir trees for their share of sky. Winking sunlight sets everything aglow. Within endless cycles of life and death, the relationships fascinate me. What I mostly see is this: trees supporting each other, and even growing into, out of and embracing each other.
This is one of three tree paintings that I started last year that are now finished and included in my submission to the rigorous jurying process at Lynden’s stellar Jansen Art Center. They’ve shifted their schedule from four seasonal open exhibitions to just one.
I’ve also submitted paintings for the Whatcom Artist Studio Tour (WAST) group show at the Blind Bird Gallery in Blaine.
So, waiting to see what comes of those.
What I choose to paint is a dynamic process that I’m getting better at feeling more than thinking through. I get to follow my joy/bliss/ enthusiasm. I energetically feel into what is calling for my focus and attention in any given moment. My muse leads, and consideration of my community, clients and galleries comes after.
Some paintings go quickly and effortlessly from start to finish. For others I have to dig deeper and work through challenges.
My paintings mirror my interior landscape; its shifts and changes. I’m not great at compartmentalizing, so if something’s off it’s gonna show up in my painting. That’s an inconvenient truth. The cool thing is that painting is also therapeutic, so bringing a painting into coherence increases my well being.
My life is good right now. I’m grateful to have recovered physical vitality, which is essential for productivity and quality of life. I’m happy with the landscape of my life and perspective. I feel clarity and momentum.
The unsettled part is that my move is still imminent. The hurdles of getting myself from here to there have brought up anxiety. I’ll get through it to an even better place, but the thought of sending my home filled with my possessions lurching down the bumpy road has me rattled!
I for sure hope to have the move behind me and be settling into my new space before the end of June.
Wish me well!
And remember, my paintings are for sale, and even when an original is sold or out of price range, prints are available through my website, and sometimes through me.
Get outside and let that sun kiss your face, lovies!
